Figure 5 explains the JTEKT seal numbering system.
Seal numbers consist of
(1) the seal type code,
(2) the spring code,
(3) the lip type code,
(4) the dimensional numbers, and
(5) the special type code,
and Table 6 shows examples of each of these codes/numbers.
Oil Seal Materials
The primary function of a cylinder gasket is to maintain the integrity of the combustion chamber. It seals the space where the piston moves up and down, ensuring that the high-pressure, high-temperature gases produced during combustion do not escape. This containment is crucial for maintaining the engine's compression ratio, which directly influences power output and fuel efficiency. The versatility of rubber as a material makes square rubber gaskets highly sought after. Rubber, with its inherent elasticity, can withstand a wide range of temperatures, from freezing cold to scorching heat, without losing its shape or effectiveness. It also offers excellent resistance to chemicals, pressure, and wear, making it ideal for use in harsh environments.Table 2 a): Common types of oil seals (with spring)
The design and material of a shaft oil seal are crucial factors in determining its effectiveness and durability. High-quality seals are made from durable materials that can withstand high temperatures, pressures, and speeds. They are also designed to maintain a tight seal against the shaft while allowing for smooth rotation without excessive friction or wear.
